There’s no doubt about it: Russian believers are more friendly, happier, and welcoming than their unbelieving counterparts – especially strangers. On more than two occasions I greeted hotel staff and got no response. At first I thought the problem was with my bad pronunciation or a problem with my accent, but I was later told this is can be quite normal.
It was a reminder for me to make a greater effort to show friendliness and demonstrate the joy of the Lord to people around me in my own setting; especially to strangers. Imagine a stranger saying ‘hello’ to Jesus and he ignores them, or replies with a mumble or a grunt. It would not have happened.
There’s a cheap saying that goes, “Smile, God loves you.” Don’t say it; just live it.
